Common questions
How many cameras do I need?
Start with the places where something enters or leaves: every exterior door, the register or safe, the loading area and the parking approach. A small retail unit usually lands at six to eight. A three-bedroom house is normally four. We map it at the survey so you are paying for coverage rather than camera count.
Wired or wireless?
Wired for anything you depend on. Power over Ethernet gives you one cable per camera, no batteries, no dropouts and far better night footage. Wireless makes sense for a detached garage or a rental where you cannot run cable. Humid Carolina summers are hard on battery cameras mounted in direct sun.
How long is footage stored?
It depends on storage size, camera count and resolution. Eight 4K cameras recording on motion to a 4TB NVR will usually hold 30 days. Continuous recording on the same setup gives you closer to 10. We size the drive to the retention you actually want, and insurers or franchisors often specify 30 or 90 days.
Can I watch from my phone?
Yes, on iPhone and Android, plus a desktop app. We set it up on your devices during the walkthrough and show you how to export a clip, which is the part people actually need under pressure.
Do you take over existing systems?
Regularly. We audit what is there, tell you honestly what is worth keeping, and reuse the cabling where it is sound. Coax from an older analog install can often carry new HD cameras. You get the admin passwords at handover, which is not always how the previous installer left it.
Do I need a permit or alarm registration in Raleigh?
Cameras on their own do not require registration. A monitored alarm system does: the City of Raleigh requires alarm users to register, and charges fees for repeat false alarms. We cover the current rules at the survey and help you register before the system goes live.
